Jackie Schomburg-Abstract Art & Creative Wellness
United States
Приєднався 2 лют 2022
Hi there! I am Jackie Schomburg Meynen, an abstract mixed media artist and teacher based just north of Chicago.
My current abstract paintings are focused on identity and the tension between freedom and the need to belong. I explore how internal and external pressures in our lives shape what we think of ourselves and how our imperfections add color to how we are perceived by others/perceive ourselves. I use bold colors and imaginative compositions to command attention and remind us to fully embrace ourselves as worthy of love and belonging.
In addition, I facilitate Brave Art & Wellness workshops that combine journal writing and intuitive art. You will learn to use art to slow down, de-stress, and stay present in the moment. This process is a highly effective self-care tool that can help calm anxiety, promote positive mental health, boost self-confidence, encourage self-expression, and help process trauma in a safe space. Go to www.jackieschomburg.com/workshops for more information.

100 Day Project-Days 53-60: Keep it Simple to Keep Showing Up #abstractcollage #abstractcollage
The actual #the100daychallange is long over, but I'm still trotting along in fits and starts with my 100 Days of Simple Collage AND YET, I'm still showing up! This video shows me make collages 53-60 as I continue on to a total of 100 of these little collages.
Note - This is Video 4 of my Simple Collage 100 Day Project Series. To start from the beginning, click here to watch the first video: ua-cam.com/video/HGY-axM5e-c/v-deo.html
Background: After a several year break, I'm doing the 100 Day Project again (the100dayproject.org) and excited to have a project idea that will challenge me (to keep showing up for 100 days straight) and keep me creating. The goal is to create something that only takes 5-10 minutes a day and I'm all about achievable goals! My plan is to use about 3 collage scraps for each collage and who knows, I might go crazy with it and add some Neocolor crayons or pen lines sometimes. I'm going to go with #100daysofsimplecollage so if you'd like to follow my progress, follow that hashtag and follow me on Instagram ( jackieschomburgart) - between the two of those, hopefully Instagram will show my posts to you every so often...? 🤣🤣🤣
Are you doing the 100 day project too? Let me know what you'll be working on and what your hashtag is so we can all cheer you on!

The BEST Way to Discover Your Artistic Style #keepshowingup #collageart #abstractart #artisticstyle
Переглядів 2,6 тис.21 день тому
The quickest, easiest way to find your artistic style is to keep showng up and making as much art as possible. The most important part is to start DOING. Don't over think it. Don't try to make it pretty. Just start assembling. Resistance thrives on the "ugh, I'm not going to make something amazing, so I shouldn't even start" mindset. This is not the time to judge your work. You can do that late...

Life has been....a LOT lately. Lots of stress, fear, sorrow, excitement, chaos, complications, and lots of love. All of it. I decided one day this week that it was time to really let loose with paint and PLAY. I wanted to go BIG and I did! I cut a piece of pre-gessoed, unstretched canvas about 6 feet by 5.5 feet and stapled it to my painting wall. Then, I added six 12"x12" cradled wood panels t...

I think spending time and having fun with art fulfills me way more than social media. Thank you Jackie for all your encouraging words. I love watching ! Keep uplifting the world !!!!
I always enjoy your wee collages. Your message about being tired and needing to create anyway is SO me! Thank you.
❤️❤️❤️
“You’re great too, little green.” 😂😂
#4. I like the high contrast black and white near the deep clear red and the sharp, clearly defined lines playing against the desaturated blue/grey with the torn jagged edges and the messy inner of yellow/orange/cream. I like the shape of the desaturated blue piece.
Great observations - thank you for sharing! ❤️
These are amazing! Great idea!
That's such a great idea, cutting painted butcher paper for collage!
Love it
Jackie, your presence and your way of sharing is such a gift to the world! I feel lighter having listened to your thoughts on rest and art-making. Thank you! ❤
Oh you just made my whole week - thank you for your kind words ❤️❤️❤️
@@jackieschomburgart My pleasure entierly!
Hello great art I like it a lot 👌 may I asking what kind of Paper do you use at minute 22:05 ? Look transparent like baking paper 😀 thanks for your answer Best regards Ole
What is the meaning (translation) of this “solid on”? Is it a color or a sort of masking fluid? Thank you for a short explanation. Great work, thanks for sharing ❤️
That took me a second to figure out 😆 “Celadon” is a gray green color of paint ❤️
So glad you asked because I’d be confused too! ❤️
@@jackieschomburgart thank you 😊 🤣
Fantastic series! Your thought process is very cool and inspirational. Thank you for sharing!❤
Thank you - I appreciate it! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm in love with how these turned out ❤!
Thank you for sharing your art and expressions! ❤ Love these, love your message!
I’m so glad to hear it - thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the pep talk!
Anytime! ❤️❤️❤️
I loved all 4 of your paintings
Thank you, Bernice!
Your words are great wisdom for me. Thanks. Frustration is hard to conquer.
I’m so glad you found it helpful ❤️ Keep showing up and keep creating! You’ve got this! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Love the truth you speak ! It definitely motivates ❤❤❤
That’s so nice to hear, Crystal - I’m so glad!
LOVE your message today Jackie. Was feeling kinda crappy today, waiting on my car in the repair $hop and this was EXACTLY what I needed to watch. If the lovely #57 is available, I would love to have it! Will email you for details :)
Boo to the car repairs but yay for art videos! ❤️❤️❤️ I will hold #57 for you!
Thank you ! This is exactly what I needed to see and hear today !
So glad it found you, Elizabeth! ❤️ Stay tuned for more!
thank you! love these. For junk mail, unfortunately, I think the only thing you can do is call and ask to be taken off the list. It's very time consuming :( But if someone else knows a trick, I'd love to know. I've been getting a lot of cards lately (rather than catalogs). Big cards, sometimes. They are great for making gelli print stencils!
Great use of free card stock! ❤️
Inspiring as always Jackie -- I'm truly an art snob when it comes to using magazine papers (someone in there insists it has to be hand-painted) and I consequently spend much more time painting papers than I do making collage -- I definitely need to cut up some magazine papers into shapes/colors and just *play* *with* *them!!!*
Haha! I remember this pet peeve of yours 😆 Perhaps you could use some hand painted papers along with the magazines to make it more to your liking? 😉 And yes, by all means, PLAY! (Psst - that’s the secret to the magazine collage - the stakes are so low there’s little fear of “wasting” anything precious. 🤗)
I would love to buy one of these! Number 60 is my favorite if you're willing to sell that one. It doesn't need to be matted. I can do that once I get it.
Hi Janet - I’d LOVE to sell number 60 to you! Just sent you an email ❤️
Dig it! Keep going!
Thanks! Will do! 🤗❤️🌈
Thank you Jackie for always reminding me that little art is still ART. Your videos inspire me every time I watch them. 😊
I'm so glad! ❤️❤️❤️
It's OK to say no, to people, to a thing, to a chore. 💜
❤️❤️❤️
You are so therapeutic to watch and listen to. Thank you so much for sharing your talented creations and inspirations!😍😍😍
That’s so nice to hear - thank you! ☺️
Hi, Jackie! Keep hanging in there. I suspect that you have a wonderful rich life going on, that’s causing all the craziness x
Thank you ☺️❤️🌈🥰
i watched a podcast from art2life & it was mentioned that americans are addicted to productivity! that's probably where it comes from.
I believe it. My adhd also helps me start too many projects too 🤣🤣🤣
The 18. February was the start day. 😊
Oh yes, that sounds familiar - thanks! 🤣🤣🤣
Hi. Can’t access “more.” Was wondering if you could suggest a large sketch book similar to the one you have but maybe a little larger. Thank you so much.❤
Hi - for a larger sketchbook, I like these 9"x12" mixed media sketchbooks: amzn.to/4cK0rai I also have other sketchbooks and other favorite supplies on my website here: www.jackieschomburg.com/favorite-supplies🤗
i love your videos!
Thanks so much, Cynthia! I’m so glad to hear it! ❤️
Internet rabbit hole is such a bad place. Making art is better for ones soul. ❤
I agree art making is a far better use of time for sooooo many reasons. ❤️❤️❤️
Hi, Jackie I just threw a val-pack in the recycle bin yesterday because I already have enough to work with for a lifetime. When I was junk journaling I had boxes of cereal boxes and junk mail. I finally realized that I would never be able to keep up with all the paper stuff that enters this household. I figured if I needed any particular thing for a project it would be here within a week. I put most of it in the recycle bin. I do sit down on a couch every morning and watch UA-cam. In front of me is a large box of images for glue booking, but with no table handy it is difficult to work on a glue book here. Thanks to you I now have a small pile of index cards. Using some of those glue book images on collages will be much more lap friendly and start my day off nicely. Your suggestions were great and enjoyed watching you collage. Nancy
Haha! I hear you on having “enough to work with for a lifetime” 🤣🤣🤣 It really doesn’t take as much paper to collage as non-collagers might think - I just like my collection and keep adding to it…. 😳🤷♀️🤗🌈❤️🥳
Thank you Jackie, love watching the littles you design. I'm so excited to get my win from the very first giveaway. Will a 16 x 20 frame be too big to my win in it??? Lol 😂
You're adorable ❤️ The frame might be a teeeeeny bit large, but then again, I have four 8"x10" family photos matted in 24"x24" frames, so you do you! 😆😆😆
@@jackieschomburgartI'll keep you posted❤
Women are masochistic.
Care to expand on that…? 😆
Love what you did with the pieces you didn't like. Love you audios and the videos together.
Thanks so much - I appreciate you saying so! ❤️
omg, Jackie! I love this post. The art, the chat, the affirmations, the personal pics, the personal share. Permission taken! Live in Love, hell yeah. Grow through creativity, yes m'am. Unleash the dreaming wild little one, we should all howl at the moon! Now heading off to the art studio :D with my pep talk in my palms (not the back pocket). I love you.
You just made my whole day, Dorrinda! Yes - keep showing up, and creating, and playing 🌈 And thank you! ☺️ Love you too! ❤️❤️❤️
It is the first time I see your video. i would like to see your process in real time not so fast.❤❤❤❤
Thanks for joining the community! Absolutely, seeing the process unfold is valuable. I appreciate the feedback about slowing down the video - that's a great idea for future content! 💖 If you like, you can join my workshop - I make real-time art there! Head to www(dot)jackieschomburg(dot)com. Or visit the link in bio! 😉
What I see is really hard work. But the result is super ❤❤❤
YAY! The journey is just as important as the destination, right? Thanks for noticing the effort - that makes it all worthwhile! 💖
the video doesn't make anxious, but i'm really curious to know how/why you're making your decisions to use or not use each element. ie, wht did left piece feel done? why the right piece didn't feel done. why did you put the collage pieces where you put them?
The short answer is: because that’s what felt good to me ❤️ You will make different choices in your art and that is a good thing. “Artistic style” is essentially a nickname for describing all of an artists preferences and decision making. To develop your own style, I’d recommend creating as often as possible. Make a huge pile of art. Then another. And another. Find our what feels good to YOU ❤️
ha I've just re watched these three, as I consider doing something like this to get myself into art again. I couldn't tell you how long it's been since I did anything with paint - possibly over 12 months. Interesting to see that I was the last one to comment! I wonder if you have done anymore (or will do), or if you are done with them and moved on?
Yay!! So glad you're thinking about getting back into art, Lorraine! A year is nothing in the creative world. You've got this! There's definitely more in the works - I can't wait to share! 💖🤗
Over thinker here. Thank you , again. i had a series of several 5 x 5 panels that were incomplete and unsatisfying. Once again, i shopped your videos for some inspiration and found this one. When I slump or stall, I find myself asking "What would Jackie do?" Gives WWJD a whole new meaning lol! 🎨
Haha, that's awesome! Glad I could help spark some creativity! 🌟
I had to comment on the 3 eggs that you included - two together and one single. Don’t you have a set of twins and a single? Motherhood changed my life! Maybe yours too. Rock star MOM wasn’t on my radar. Love your art! Thanks for sharing! ❤
Indeed I DO have twins and a single! ❤️❤️❤️ Oh yes, me too - motherhood is a whole book unto itself! 😳🤪😅🥰
how can i make a transparent paint out of a regular body paint?
Are you wanting to thin your paint down from heavy body paint to fluid paint (thinner but not lighter in color)? If so, you can try adding mediums (high flow, fluid medium, etc.) to the thicker paint and mixing it to thin it out. If you’re looking to make opaque paint (can’t see through it) transparent, you can make it a bit more see-through by adding mediums, but it will still look a bit “chalky” and not as transparent as just starting with transparent paint.
@@jackieschomburgart i don't want to thin the body of the paint so much as have a transparent paint without buying another tube of paint. ie, i have a tube of magenta paint that's opaque; i want to have this same color but transparent.
Got it. Then I’d suggest adding medium to it to make it less opaque. 👍
I enjoy what you share so much!! Thanks! 🥰 so beautiful & freeing & fun!!
Hearing you say that makes my day! So glad you find my art beautiful, freeing, AND fun! 💖
Thank you for being so open and sharing those feelings about our child selves compared to our adult selves. I felt the power and freedom of your child self just from looking at those pictures!! Your spirit as a strong, free, joyful artist shines through ✨💛✨
Wow, that's so powerful! 🤩 I'm so happy the art evoked that feeling in you. Reconnecting with our childlike selves is such a gift! 💖
Really enjoying this, like all 3 very much, and the color scheme is great. Gabby from NZ
That makes me happy to hear! The colors were so much fun to pick. Glad you enjoyed all 3 pieces! 💖
Hi, Jackie I am 71. The biggest time for spiritual growth for me was age 45 - 49. Some was quite painful, most was very joyful. You are where you need to be. Nancy
Thanks for the reassurance, Nancy! ❤️❤️❤️
@@jackieschomburgart You did such a beautiful job of sharing your experience.
